September 13, 1946 – July 21, 2021

On July 21, 2021, our beloved dad left this Earth to be at peace. He was born September 13, 1946, to Melicio and Nickie Sena. Please take a moment and share a fond memory or kind expression of sympathy for Merlin’s family at

He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1968 to 1970, where earned numerous awards and medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/30, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/Device, a Presidential Unit Citation, Rifle Expert Badge and the Good Conduct Medal.

He married Margaret Sena Sisneros on September 12, 1970. Merlin loved to hunt, fish and spend time with family. Memories of fishing, camping, arrowhead, and Pecos Valley Diamond hunting will forever live on in our hearts. All the bike and skateboard assemblies for the kids, Elijah, Rea and Jay so they could go on the bike trails safely. He enjoyed spending time with Matt, Anthony, Stephen and Andrew in Houston, Texas fishing on fishing boats, and eating with Dina at Cracker Barrel and Clay‘s Burgers and Rings. Leta’s most treasured memory was going fishing with her brother, and her most embarrassing moment was getting kicked in the butt for stealing a car at 12 years of age, a Rambler!! Her most memorable was riding on the back of a motorcycle with Merlin, then he’d lend it to her anytime.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Margaret Sena of 50 years; sister Leta Sena Quezada; Daughters: Dina Sena Galvan and husband Anthony Galvan; Nicole Sena Vargas and husband Ralph Vargas; nieces Nicolette, Jeanine and Lexi Sena; nephews: Gabe and Desean Sena; Grandsons: Matthew, Stephen and Andrew Galvan and Noel Vargas; granddaughter Tierra Vargas; great granddaughter Mareah Gonzales; great grandsons: Elijah and Juan; and fury friends: Snowball and Ozo Sena.

This obituary was written in Merlin’s honor by his loving family.

When tomorrow starts without me and I am not there to see.
As the sun rises and sets with your eyes all filled with tears for me,
I wish so much you would not cry the way you did today while thinking
of all the things we never got to say. For the wages of sin is death,
but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

– Romans 6:23
