Tourism Dept to install ‘Floating Theatre’ at Dal Lake on closing ceremony of ‘Iconic Week’

Dir Tourism says old movies shot in valley will be displayed

Srinagar, Oct 27: In a bid to promote the tourism sector in the valley, the Tourism department in Kashmir is organizing a grand show on the concluding day of the weeklong iconic festival by installing a ‘Floating Theatre’ at the world famous Dal Lake on October 29.

Director Tourism Dr. G.N. Itoo while speaking exclusively to Rising Kashmir said that on the concluding day of Iconic Week festival, Tourism department is organizing a grand show which will witness, ‘Floating Theatre’ for the first time and movies from early 60s to present shot in the valley and inside the Dal Lake will be re-plugged and will be on display, and can be watched in illuminated and decorated Shikaras.

“For the first time, a ‘Floating Theatre’ will be installed inside the Dal Lake near Nehru park and movies of early 60s to present shot in the valley and inside the Dal Lake will be on display, and people who wish to see the movies can watch while enjoying their ride in Shikaras against a proper ticket and for that five ticket counters have been set up which will be taken care by the Houseboat People”, he said.

Notably, the iconic weeklong festival commenced on Saturday last week. 

Commissioner Secretary Tourism and Culture Sarmad Hafeez on the occasion presented a vote of thanks, and said the Iconic Week is being organized to promote J&K as an all-season tourist destination.

Dr. Itoo further said that apart from the display of the old movies shot in the valley on ‘Floating Theatre’, a movie on the history of Houseboats will also be displayed on the ‘Floating Theatre’.

“To showcase the history of the houseboats in the valley, a movie developed by the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism department will also be on display”, he added.

He also said there will be a Shikara Carnival and around hundred Shikaras will be illuminated and decorated on the occasion.

“To add to the festivities there will be also a spectacular Laser Show”, Dr. Itoo added
