CHARLEVOIX — A new addition to downtown Charlevoix will soon offer another spot to enjoy one of Northern Michigan’s million-dollar sunsets paired with a glass of wine.
The VUE Wine Bar — slated to open later this month — is nestled on Charlevoix’s Pine River Channel on the south side of the bascule bridge, offering views of the boaters and nightly sunsets setting over Lake Michigan.
“The whole concept is the view,” said manager and sommelier Micki McGuire.
“This will be a wonderful space and experience for people to come and enjoy a glass of wine, relax, hang out with friends and watch the beautiful sunset right here in beautiful Charlevoix.”
McGuire noted the wine bar started as an idea over a decade ago when the two owners were sitting at the Weathervane and looking at the building from across the channel.
Now, years in the making, the dream of opening their wine bar is coming to fruition.
“It was 15 years ago when I first walked by this place,” said David Levy, one of the owners .
“It really goes back a long time but we are so excited to be opening soon. It really doesn’t get better than this; wine paired with this great view,” he said.
VUE Wine Bar will not only feature an indoor seating area — with a bar and tables for enjoying wine and charcuterie — but it will also have a wine cellar and market for people to purchase a bottle of wine or other related goods.
The bar will also feature a brand new 30-foot-by-20-foot deck overlooking the Pine River Channel, with seating where guests can enjoy watching a sunset over Lake Michigan.
“There will be about eight tables out there and people will be able to sit and relax on the channel,” said McGuire.
“It will be such a perfect addition to downtown and spot for people to really take in the views. I personally also like watching the parade of boats coming through the channel every half hour,” she added.
Eager guests can expect an assortment of wines from Europe, America, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, Chile, Argentina and even a selection of local wine. Cocktails and a selection of beer are also slated to be on the menu.
“We are finding the locals are thrilled about this,” said McGuire.
“I can’t tell you how many people come in each day that i have given a small tour to or that have been telling us they’ve been waiting for something like this,” she added.
The VUE Wine Bar, located at 101 Bridge St. in downtown Charlevoix, doesn’t have a hard opening date. However, operators aim to begin serving customers by late August.
