Water search in Somerset for possible missing boater


SOMERSET, Mass. — Rescue crews in Somerset are searching the Taunton River for a man who may be missing after going boating on Friday night.

The Somerset Fire department first got the call Saturday at 10:30 A.M.

The searched went into the night on Saturday. Crews plan to pick up the search Sunday morning.

The Somerset Harbor Master reported that a man had taken a dinghy onto the river from the Somerset Yacht Club on Gay Street at about 5 p.m. on Friday, but had not returned. The man’s car was still parked in the club parking lot on Saturday morning.

Crews are conducting a coordinated “grid search” on the water from the Charles M. Braga Jr. Memorial Bridge to the Town of Dighton.

The man’s name has not been released at this time.

The crews helping in the search include the Somerset Police Department, the Somerset Harbor Master, the Somerset Police and Fire Drone Teams, Tiverton, R.I., Marine Unit, Bristol, R.I., Marine Unit, Fall River Harbormaster, Fall River Fire Department, U.S. Coast Guard, and the Massachusetts Environmental Police.
